SW Real Estate Investment is a privately held real estate development, investment, and brokerage company specializing in high-quality retail, mixed-use, and multifamily properties. Founded in 2025 by Scott and Spencer Wierda, the company combines decades of industry experience with a forward-thinking vision for creating vibrant, community-centered spaces.

SW Real Estate Investment oversees the full lifecycle of each project, including site acquisition, entitlements, development, leasing, and ongoing asset management, focused on delivering enduring value to partners, tenants, and the surrounding communities.

Scott Wierda
CEO

Scott Wierda is a veteran real estate developer and investor with nearly 40 years of experience in commercial real estate investment, development, and brokerage. As CEO and co-founder of SW Real Estate Investment, he brings decades of leadership in developing and managing high-performing retail, office, and mixed-use properties across West Michigan.
Prior to launching SWREI, Scott served as principal and managing partner of CWD Real Estate Investment, where he co-led the acquisition, development, and management of more than 3 million square feet of commercial space throughout downtown Grand Rapids and the surrounding region. He also co-founded Jade Pig Ventures in 1995, which remains active through its legacy property holdings.
Scott has long been known for his vision, integrity, and passion for placemaking. His developments have helped shape the commercial core of Grand Rapids and its suburban business districts including:
- Breton Village Shopping Center – A 200,000-square-foot open-air specialty lifestyle shopping center featuring national retailers like Lululemon, West Elm, Evereve, Madewell, Free People, Orvis, Design Within Reach, Warby Parker, and Kendra Scott, alongside beloved local boutiques such as Leigh’s, Fitzgerald’s, and Mason Jones.
- Bucktown Shopping Center – A 350,000+ square-foot power center anchored by Target and Cabela’s, home to a strong mix of national retail and restaurant tenants.
- Gaslight Village – An 80,000-square-foot mixed-use destination in the heart of East Grand Rapids, offering a unique blend of local and national retail, dining, office, and medical space in a charming, walkable setting.
He has also contributed his leadership to numerous civic, cultural, and philanthropic initiatives, including key roles with the Michigan State Housing Development Authority, the Grand Rapids Art Museum, Van Andel Institute Board, Grand Valley State University Foundation Board and the Grand Rapids Downtown Improvement District, among others.
At SWREI, Scott leads the company’s strategic direction, investments, and brokerage operations. His passion for thoughtful design, community impact, and multigenerational legacy continues to drive the firm’s approach to building long-term value.
Scott holds a degree in business administration from Hope College and is a licensed Real Estate Associate Broker in the State of Michigan. He lives in East Grand Rapids with his wife, Rebecca.

Spencer Wierda
President / Director of Development

Spencer Wierda is an experienced real estate investment professional with a strong background in multifamily development and private equity. As president and director of development at SW Real Estate Investment, Spencer leads the firm’s growing residential and mixed-use development pipeline, bringing a next-generation perspective to strategic growth across West Michigan.
Before co-founding SW Real Estate Investment, Spencer was part of the acquisitions team at Origin Investments, where he played a key role in the development and acquisition of over 3,000 multifamily units across the Southeast and Southwest U.S., totaling over $1 billion in transactions. Before that, he worked at Blue Vista Capital Management, completing more than $300 million in transactions across multifamily, retail, industrial, and self-storage sectors. With a strong foundation in real estate investment and a keen eye for strategic opportunities, Spencer is committed to driving value and delivering successful outcomes for investors.

Spencer holds a Bachelor of Science in Business from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, where he majored in Finance and Real Estate. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, playing hockey, producing music, and spending time with family. He and his wife, Caroline, live in Grand Rapids.
